Cycling for wellbeing – A view from SUEZ during National Bike Week 2021

Delivered by Cycling UK and with a theme of health and wellbeing this year, Bike Week celebrates all the amazing ways that cycling makes us feel physically, mentally, and emotionally!

At SUEZ, we value the benefits that cycling brings to our staff and the local community.

With the Greater Manchester Bee Network focusing on making it easier and safer for people across Greater Manchester to cycle or walk for everyday trips such as work, it is important that we as employers are providing the right environment to support our colleagues to switch to more sustainable ways of traveling to work and to be able to store their bikes safely once at their workplace.

This is why by the end of this year all of our sites will have appropriate bike shelters, and all of our staff already have access to a Cycle2Work scheme with Halfords which allows the purchase of a tax-free bike through a monthly payment through their salary.

We are also committed to supporting the local community and know the importance of access to transport for those trying to access work and for their own wellbeing. This is why we are proud to support the charitable organisation Positive Cycles, who we donate bikes to from one of our Household Waste Recycling Centre’s in Oldham. They strip and refurbish bikes, providing skills and training for community groups, including youth offenders, and then donate or sell at a low cost to local families or job seekers in need.

Since the partnership began earlier this year, we have donated more than 200 bikes and Positive Cycles have so far donated 99 of those to people in need!
