LET’S SORT IT OUT BOLTON

We are working with Bolton Council to help residents recycle right in their beige paper and card bin.

The problem

We are seeing lots of the wrong items in the beige bin. These are items such as:

  • Bags of general waste
  • Nappies
  • Food waste
  • Face masks

The beige bin is for clean paper and card only. Too many wrong items in the bin can contaminate a whole load of recycling. This means it has to be treated as general waste, wasting everyone’s recycling efforts and costing Bolton Council large sums of public money

What are we doing?

We are working with Bolton Council to help residents recycle right in the beige bin and reduce the contamination we are seeing.

Leaflet

Every house in Bolton with kerbside wheelie bins will get a bin shaped leaflet delivered to them throughout August.

The leaflet explains what can and cannot go in your beige bin. Keep it on your fridge as a handy reminder.

Bin sticker

Every beige bin will get a sticker put on it showing the most common wrong items that we find in the beige bins.

Remember only clean paper and card should go in your beige bin (this includes drink cartons).

Bin lorries

Look out for new artwork on the sides of some of the bin lorries as they collect your recycling.

What can you recycle?

Only put these things in your beige bin:

  • Books
  • Card packaging
  • Cardboard
  • Envelopes and mail
  • Food and drink cartons
  • Greetings cards (no glitter)
  • Junk mail
  • Magazines and catalogues
  • Paper and newspapers
  • Wrapping paper (not foiled paper. To check if it can be recycled, try the scrunch test. If you can scrunch the paper into a ball and it stays scrunched, you can recycle it.)
