We all love a takeaway coffee. But did you know that you can’t put them in any of your recycling bins?
Disposable coffee cups from high-street coffee shops should go in your general waste bin but you can also bring them along to one of our Recycle for Greater Manchester sites, along with your general waste.
Why can’t coffee cups be recycled?
This is because they are often lined with plastic that is bonded to the cup to help them hold liquid and stop the paper cup going soggy.
Compostable packaging such as coffee cups takes much longer to break down, sometimes it can take years. This means that they won’t be composted in the same time as your food and garden waste.
Choose to reuse: you can reduce waste and save some money by using your own plastic coffee cup which you can wash and use on repeat.
