Cat litter is a common household waste item, but it can’t be recycled and all types of used cat litter should go into your general waste bin.
This is because cat litter is soiled and contaminated, making it unsuitable for recycling streams.
Place used cat litter in a securely tied bag and put it in your general waste bin or, alternatively, take your cat litter to your local household recycling centre where it should be placed in the general waste container.
Do not attempt to recycle or compost as even biodegradable or paper-based litters may contain harmful pathogens.
And never flush cat litter down the toilet as it can block pipes and cause contamination in water systems.
