Initial research conducted by One Trafford showed that up to 23% of contents in the general waste bin is food waste.

The aim of the campaign was to focus on encouraging residents to recycle all their food waste in the food and garden recycling bin which is collected weekly.


  • All households were door knocked and provided with an information leaflet about food waste recycling
  • Residents were also given the chance to order new recycling containers
  • A ‘no food waste’ sticker was placed on the general rubbish bin as a reminder
  • Community events to engage with resident were held across the targeted area
  • Assemblies were delivered in local schools


  • 4 community events held attended by a total of 119 residents
  • 4 education visits and one assembly delivered to local schools to 346 pupils
  • 268 containers ordered by residents
