Areas targeted

11,873 households in:

  • Dukinfield
  • Hyde
  • Stalybridge
  • Denton

Summary

The aim of the campaign was to reduce the amount of food waste that is still getting disposed of in the general waste bin.

Recycling food waste correctly in the right container not only improves recycling rates but also creates more space in the general waste bins that tend to get overfilled.

The second objective of this campaign was to reduce contamination in the other two recycling bins (paper and card and mixed recycling).

Activities

  • All households were door knocked and given an information leaflet to help them recycle all their food waste and had the chance to order food recycling containers
  • A ‘no food waste sticker’ was placed on the general waste bin as a reminder
  • The Golden Caddy prize draw was used as an incentive for residents to start using newly requested food recycling caddies
  • Community events were held across the targeted area
  • Free coaches were made available to local schools to encourage them to visit our education centres

Results

  • Over a 1,100 recycling bins were ordered and delivered to residents, including 982 new food and garden bins or caddies
  • One winner was selected who won £150 of Love2shop vouchers
  • 5 schools visits were delivered to over 120 pupils

Hi, thanks for your comment. To get more compostable food liners, tie an empty liner around the handle of your bin and the collection crew will leave you a new roll. Otherwise, you will need to contact your local council to order new compostable food liners. You can call Tameside council on 0161 342 8355 or fill out this online form http://public.tameside.gov.uk/forms/f1251DomesticRefuseRequests.asp
I hope this helps you.
