Why we are doing it…

The campaigns team went to the Materials Recovery facility where everything from the brown recycling bin is sorted. They found that residents are putting the wrong things in their brown bin.  Plastic bags, pots, tubs and trays were the most common incorrect items. There were even general waste, plastic toys and furniture in the recycling.

Wrong things in the brown bin lowers the quality and the value of the recycling collected. It can even cause whole lorry loads of recycling to be rejected.

Who we’re working with…

  • Oldham council recycling team
  • Local councillors
  • Large businesses
  • Community groups

What are we doing?

  • Delivering ‘Are you recycling right’ leaflets  to 90,000 Oldham homes
  • Putting stickers on the grey general waste bins to remind residents to put plastic pot, tubs, trays and packaging in the grey bin
  • Talking to residents at local community events

Campaign update

After a busy few months of putting stickers on bins, delivering leaflets to households, speaking to loads of people at events and much more, we now want to know what you thought!

Your valuable feedback will help shape the future of our recycling campaigns. The 30 question survey takes about 10-15 minutes to complete. It will help us plan our next campaign, focused on improving the quality and quantity of Greater Manchester’s recycling.

You have until midnight on Monday 27th May to have your say.
