Greater Manchester based charities you didn’t know about

There are lots of charities in Greater Manchester doing incredible work to help those in need.  From books, clothes, furniture to wedding dresses, your donations can change lives.

Wood Street Mission

Wood Street Mission is a children’s charity helping children and families living on a low income in Manchester and Salford.

They provide practical help to meet children’s day-to-day needs. Through Family Basics they provide families with children’s clothes, bedding and baby equipment toys and books. They also promote engagement in education by helping families with the costs of going to school through SmartStart and run holiday Book Clubs to promote reading.

Things you can donate include:

  • Children’s clothing
  • Bedding and towels
  • Books, games and toys

Baby Basics

Baby Basics provides much needed essentials and equipment to mothers and families in Bolton and Bury who are unable to provide these items for themselves. Baby Basics volunteers collect, sort and package a Moses Basket full of clothing, toiletries and essential baby equipment to new mothers.

Things you can donate include

  • Moses baskets and sheets
  • Towels and blankets for babies
  • Clothing for babies (newborn and 0-3 month size)

Gift of a Wedding

Based in Stalybridge, Gift of a Wedding gift free wedding services to people with a terminal or life shortening illness. The charity is made up of a team from the wedding, medical and charity sectors. Goods, skills and services are donated by local businesses and members of the public.

Things you can donate:

  • Wedding/bridesmaid dresses
  • Suits
  • Shoes

Petrus

Petrus provides residential and day support services to people in Oldham and Rochdale who are homeless or in housing need. It offers a safe environment where people can develop their skills and independence to empower change.

Things you can donate:

  • Blankets
  • Sleeping bags
  • Gloves, hats and scarves

You can also donate, furniture, homeware, books and clothes to their community store.


SmartWorks GM

Since June 2015, Smart Works Greater Manchester have supported over 1200 women across Greater Manchester, helping them with the clothes and the confidence they need for job success.
